The Meditations, Thursday June 24, Hodi’s, $10
Performing since 1974, this Jamaican-rooted trio still performs for audiences all over the world – with their original lineup intact.
Since their inception, they’ve recorded nine studio albums and shared the stage and recorded with reggae greats Bob Marley, Gregory Isaacs, Jimmy Cliff, and The Congos.
In fact, Bob Marley enjoyed their three-part harmonies so much that he practically hunted them down, searching through all of the studios in Kingston, to sing back-up vocals for him.
Messy Jiverson w/ The Riot, Wednesday June 30, Hodi’s, 21+ free/$5 under 21
Messy Jiverson, visiting all the way from St. Louis, consists of six musicians who love to pump up the jam: The disco funk jam, that is. This band know how to get a crowd moving, and they are known for incorporating multiple vintage keyboards into their sound, thus creating a melody-driven sound backed up by eclectic beats. They are also influenced by hip-hop, soul, and psychedelic rock, so, as you can imagine, they are able to blend many varied sounds into their dance-worthy performances.
The Riot, an indie-rock quartet from Anchorage, Alaska, opens.
