Kerry Kean, an Ohio-based guitarist and songwriter, will perform at the The Tap Room @ Catalyst in Fort Collins, Colorado on June 5, 2010. Kean, the winner of the 2008 Kent State Folk Festival contest and a regular on the Ohio Valley circuit, is expanding his focus with a national tour beginning in May. He released an instrumental guitar cd in 2009 with an Appalachian area theme: “New River Guitarism” contains fingerstyle guitar compositions inspired by the majestic natural beauty of the New River Gorge in West Virginia. Kean, a long-time rock climber and hiking enthusiast, has been blending his love of music and the outdoors for years, and feels that he has achieved a real synthesis of the two with this release. His newest release, 2010’s “This Song is for You”, is more focused on vocals with the guitar work taking a supporting role. The songs showcase Kean’s evocative singing and emotional range, from the romantic to the humorous.
New River Guitarism has received a great deal of critical acclaim:
“White Water is just that: a swirling speedy tour of rapids and swift runs, while Drifting sketches out a section of the same waterway in contemplative airs, a pool of lucid calm quietly meandering by…always absorbing, complex when deep in Kottke country, then panoramic and gestural when contemplative…”
- Mark S. Tucker for Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange
“…a treat for lovers of melodic guitar…” – Gabe McCaslin for http://www.FolkWorld.de
