Baily Stauffer, best known for her songs about heartache and loss, has produced another EP: Bend or Break. Now known as Baily Stauffer and the Katy Janes, the band maintains a unique mixture of blues, folk and rock, all rolled into one fluid entity.
This album isn’t only about pain and damages from the past, however: It also carries a message of moving forward in everything that we do. The CD moves from songs that are uplifting, foot-stomping and head-bobbing to songs that are thought-provoking and reminiscent of the past. Each song will latch onto you, whether by the remarkable guitar playing or the outstanding lyrics.
Though all of the songs on this EP are very well done, one of the strongest tracks is “Sweet Atonement.” The guitar rhythm and vocals throughout this song work great together, and this track shows off all the great aspects of this CD, including strong background vocals and classic drumbeats.
As Baily Stauffer has always shown in her work, creating great music has always taken precedence over fitting into one particular genre. Even now, playing with the Katy Janes, it’s difficult to label this band’s tunes as one specific type of music. Because of this, this album is best suited for anyone that loves a mix of genres.
