Not many surprises here for EOTO’s third studio album, Fire the Lazers – just twelve new tracks giving us more of their classic electronic down-tempo experimental jams.
Their signature extreme bass-womp that either makes a new listener love them or hate them takes over the entire second song, “Time Saw.” Whereas this song isn’t quite danceable, “Make My Day,” which uses the same deep bass loops, is great for putting you in a trance-like dance mode.
“Comrade Down,” as well as a few other songs on the album, carries a somewhat heavy industrial sound that isn’t heard as much in previous albums. It’s not so heavy that it changes EOTO’s style in any way – rather, it adds to and evolves their classic sounds.
“Square Parts” is an interesting song – the title truly describes it. Think intricate sounds coming together to form different shapes – again not a very danceable song, but awesome to listen to.
“Flying Red” and “Circuit Bent” are two very different songs, but also some of the album’s hottest tracks.
If you know EOTO then you know how amazing their methods are. All shows are improvised – they use no pre-set samples, instead making their samples as they perform.
Pick up or download Fire the Lazers when you get a chance – you won’t be disappointed if you like their previous work. Or, better yet, check them out live October 9 at the Ogden.
